Every year tons of cutting waste from the vegetable and food industry are thrown away. Papierlab Rotterdam creates a new use for the peels of asparagus by making handmade paper out of it. The paper has beautiful tactile qualities and especially in combination with light, the fibers of the vegetables become visible. 

​

Inspired by origami and by the folded children's game we designed a salt and cellar table lamp. When the lamp is switched on, one can see the translucency of the asparagus paper as well as the fibers and the folding lines. The base of the lamp is made out of paper-thin triplex. The light shines through the wood and creates a warm feeling.
